Mia Carlsson is an Associate Professor and University Lecturer at the Department of Law, Faculty of Law, Stockholm University. Her academic work centers on civil law and public law with specialized expertise in tort law, compensation law, social insurance law, and personal injury law, particularly concerning work injury issues. She serves on the Faculty Board and directs the Legal Introductory Course and Special Course in Tort Law.

She has developed specialized expertise in personal injury law with emphasis on workplace accident compensation.
Her publication record demonstrates a consistent scholarly trajectory from comparative studies of Nordic workers' compensation systems toward increasingly specialized analyses of damages calculation, liability relationships, and the boundaries of occupational injury protection. The most recent works integrate administrative law perspectives with traditional civil law frameworks.

She recently contributed as expert to the Workers' Compensation Investigation (SOU 2023:53) and previously to the Inquiry into more equal and legally secure insurance for work-related injuries (SOU 2017:25). Her leadership roles include Secretary of the Industrial Injuries Commission (2010-2012) and Head of the Research Department in Tort Law at the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law (2010-2014).
