Birgitte Hagland is a Professor at the Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law, Faculty of Law, University of Oslo. She specializes in Tort Law, Commercial Law, and Jurisprudence with a focus on legal theory and comparative analysis. Her research explores topics like tort liability, state accountability, and legal development in Scandinavian contexts.
Education: PhD from University of Oslo (2012) on contribution among tortfeasors. Key roles include leading the Oslo Centre for Commercial Law and chairing The Private Law Symposium. She also serves as President of The Norwegian Financial Complaints Board for casualty insurance.
Research interests emphasize legal frameworks surrounding compensation, insurance, and human rights within tort law. Her recent work includes analyzing Anglo-American justice theories in Norwegian contexts and exploring gender disparities in insurance compensation.
