Professor Mete Atatüre is a Professor at the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory and has served as Head of the Department of Physics since 2023. He previously worked as a research associate at ETH Zurich's Institute for Quantum Electronics under Ataç İmamoğlu. His affiliations include co-director roles at Q-BIOMED and co-founder/CSO of Nu Quantum.
Education: Mete Atatüre earned his PhD in 2002 from Boston University's Quantum Imaging Laboratory following a B.Sc. in Physics from Bilkent University in 1996.
Research Interests: Atatüre's work focuses on quantum networks, quantum sensors, and quantum optics. His research explores the interactions between matter and light in quantum systems, with applications including quantum technologies and medical quantum sensors through his Q-BIOMED initiatives. His contributions have advanced quantum imaging and quantum materials development.
Awards: Atatüre has been honored with the

- IoP Thomas Young Medal and Prize (2020)
Advising & Grants: His research is supported by ERC grants (Starter, Consolidator, Advanced & Proof of Concept) and he advises through his industry roles. He also contributes to academic policy through ALLEA's European Commission advisory group.
Labs/Teams: Leads research at the Cavendish Laboratory and co-directs the Q-BIOMED quantum technology center focused on medical applications.
