Meredith Reiches is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Boston and a founding member of the Gender and Science Research Group. She leads the Biocultural Anthropology Lab at UMass Boston and is affiliated with Harvard University's GenderSci Lab. Her research focuses on how cultural and biological concepts of sex/gender shape understandings of human origins and adolescent development, integrating methodologies from reproductive ecology, comparative literature, and feminist science studies.
Reiches investigates adolescence as both a biological transition (shifting from growth to reproduction) and a critical period for gender identity formation. She emphasizes equity in scholarly practice and explores interdisciplinary connections between anthropology, gender studies, and scientific discourse. Her work bridges the life sciences and humanities to challenge entrenched ideas about human biology and societal norms.
