University of Massachusetts Amherstمعرفی
Brigitte M. Holt is a Professor of Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research focuses on human evolution and biocultural adaptation, particularly the relationship between physical activity and skeletal robusticity in past populations. She leads the European Project examining postcranial robusticity changes from the Upper Paleolithic to modern times, linking osteoporosis prevalence to reduced physical activity and societal shifts.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology, University of Missouri-Columbia (1999)
- M.A. in Biological Anthropology, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1987)
- B.A. in Anthropology, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (1984)
Her work also investigates modern human origins through excavations at Riparo Bombrini (Italy), a key site for Neandertal-to-modern human transition studies. She collaborates with institutions like Duke University and Arizona State University.
Research Interests:
- Bone mass adaptation to physical activity
- Impact of agriculture and industrialization on human biology
- Middle/Upper Paleolithic transition in Europe
No specific grants or awards are listed, but her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches combining skeletal analysis with archaeological data.
She is affiliated with the Organismic & Evolutionary Biology program and the IDGP Office at UMass Amherst.
