Sarah S. Richardson is Aramont Professor of the History of Science and Professor of Studies of Women, Gender, and Sexuality at Harvard University. Her research explores the history and philosophy of sciences related to sex, gender, sexuality, and reproduction through interdisciplinary approaches bridging gender studies and scientific inquiry.
Research interests include feminist science studies, bias in scientific research, postgenomics, medical management of the female body, and sex/gender in evolutionary theory. Her work critically examines how scientific knowledge about sex and gender is produced and interpreted.
Publications demonstrate sustained focus on gender contextualism in laboratory science, feminist analysis of medical expertise, and critical genetics studies. Recent work examines methodological rigor in sex differences research and feminist perspectives on health policy.
Leads the GenderSci Lab, which produces feminist scholarship challenging biological essentialism and developing new frameworks for understanding sex and gender in science.
