Dr. Meredith Madden is an Assistant Professor of Athletic Training at the University of Southern Maine (USM), located in Portland, ME. She is affiliated with the Department of Exercise, Health, and Sport Sciences within the College of Science, Technology, and Health. Dr. Madden joined the faculty in 2018 and oversees the MSAT simulation program established in 2020. She holds certifications such as the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator® (CHSE) earned in 2022.
Dr. Madden’s educational background includes a BS and EdD in Athletic Training from Boston University, an MA in Psychology from Washington College, and a Certificate of Graduate Study in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety from USM’s Muskie School of Public Service.
Her research focuses on concussion education for neurodiverse populations and individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, simulation-based athletic training education, interprofessional collaboration, and healthcare quality improvement. She emphasizes frameworks rooted in patient safety, health literacy, and quality assurance within athletic training practices.
In service and leadership roles, she serves as District 1 representative for NATA’s Professional Development Committee, a peer-to-peer crisis responder through NATA ATs Care Commission, and sits on Special Olympics Maine’s Board of Directors as Healthy Athletes Health Promotion Clinical Director. She also contributes to USM’s Interprofessional Education Committee and the AT Academy in the National Academies of Practice.
Dr. Madden maintains clinical relevance through per diem athletic training coverage and community service at marathons and Special Olympics events. Her professional certifications include LAT (Licensed Athletic Trainer), ATC (Athletic Trainer Certified), and PNAP (Professional Newborn Advanced Life Support Provider).
