Menno Kamminga is a faculty member at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Department of International Relations and IO. He holds a PhD (dr.) and an engineering degree (ir.). His research focuses on ethics and global political economy, with expertise in the theory of international relations and colonialism studies. He teaches courses such as 'Theory of International Relations' and 'Research Seminar Ethics and Global Political Economy' at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
His work critically examines historical injustices, particularly colonialism, transformative justice, and the ethical dimensions of apologies for past slavery. He has contributed to discussions on Reinhold Niebuhr's political realism, its modern relevance, and its applications to contemporary polarization and societal challenges. Kamminga serves on academic boards, including the Faculty Board of the International Political Economy cluster and the Board of Examiners of the Faculty of Arts.
Key publications include analyses of colonialism's enduring ethical implications, critiques of transformative justice frameworks, and translations/interpretations of Niebuhr's thought. His interdisciplinary approach bridges political theory, ethics, and global history.
