Dr. Melvyn Evans is the Director of Programmes for Social Science at Middlesex University, based in London. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Law and the Department of Law and Social Sciences. His research focuses on social exclusion, neighbourhood renewal, community regeneration, informal economic activities, and the social economy in the UK and Europe.
Dr. Evans has extensive teaching experience, instructing Research and Practice Skills for the MA International Relations and MA Global Governance and Sustainable Development programmes. His academic career includes roles such as Senior Research Fellow and Research Fellow at Middlesex University’s Social Policy Research Centre, and Associate Lecturer at the Open University.
His research interests emphasize the intersection of social capital, policy interventions, and community development. Notable themes include the role of social enterprise in marginalized communities and the impact of informal economies on local development. His work often involves cross-national comparisons, particularly within Western Europe.
Dr. Evans has contributed to significant research outputs, including evaluations of government regeneration projects and policy reports for the European Commission. His publications span journals, edited volumes, and policy-oriented reports, addressing topics like mutualization of public services, measuring social capital, and the shadow economy.
