Melissa Newcomb is an Associate Professor and leader of the Art and Design program at Keuka College. She teaches painting, drawing, mixed media, photography, and design, and coordinates exhibits at the Lightner Art Gallery. She leads an advisory board of local professionals and artists to support student growth and experiential learning. Her academic credentials include an M.F.A. in painting from Rochester Institute of Technology (2007), an M.A. in photography, and a B.F.A. from SUNY Oswego, along with an Associate’s Degree in Fine Art from Finger Lakes Community College.
Her research interests focus on visual arts pedagogy, community engagement through art, and interdisciplinary creative practices. She has contributed to public art initiatives, including a mural on Coach Street in Canandaigua and exhibitions at the UR Medicine Breast Imaging and Birthing Center. Her work emphasizes connections between artistic exploration and real-world application.
Melissa actively involves students in collaborative projects and community partnerships, fostering hands-on learning opportunities. She is also deeply engaged in local arts advocacy and cultural enrichment efforts beyond the classroom.
