Dr. Melissa Lovell is a Research Fellow and Convenor of the Freilich Project at ANU, focusing on bigotry studies and diversity promotion. With expertise in Indigenous policy and political theory, she examines colonial and neoliberal impacts on social policy. Her research analyzes how deficit assumptions shape policies affecting Indigenous communities in education, welfare, and justice systems.
Current work investigates the politics of Indigenous childhood, challenging deficit narratives in child welfare discourse. Dr. Lovell has contributed to national research on justice reinvestment alternatives and Indigenous representation frameworks.
