Melissa Keeley is an Associate Professor of Geography, Public Policy & Public Administration at George Washington University's Department of Geography & Environment within the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. She serves as Director of the Environmental Studies Program and Undergraduate Advisor (last names A-L). Her research focuses on urban sustainability, particularly green infrastructure and stormwater management. She advises cities like Philadelphia, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, Miami, and Washington DC on green infrastructure strategy, contributing to DC’s 2019 zoning rewrite by introducing the Green Area Ratio. In 2019, she co-authored the seminal book Urban Sustainability in the US: Cities Take Action (Palgrave Macmillan).
Her expertise spans green infrastructure design, urban climate resilience, and interdisciplinary education. She emphasizes equity in sustainability planning and integrates policy, ecology, and urban development.
