Dr. Ihnji Jon is a Lecturer in Human Geography at Cardiff University's School of Geography and Planning. He holds a PhD from the University of Washington (Seattle) in Planning and Geography, and an MSc from Sciences Po Paris in Urban Governance and Politics. Previously, he was a Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and a Chateaubriand Fellow at École Normale Supérieure (Paris Ulm). His research focuses on green urban development, circular economy's spatial consequences, and knowledge politics, emphasizing ethical relationships with more-than-human environments. He authored Cities in the Anthropocene: New Ecology and Urban Politics (Pluto Press, 2021), which critiques environmental discourse through an anti-essentialist lens. Jon actively engages in public scholarship, including talks at the University of Chicago and Manchester, and podcasts like New Books Network. His work bridges theory and practice, addressing urban challenges through interdisciplinary frameworks. Awards include Fellowships from the Royal Geographical Society and UK Higher Education Academy.
Research interests include political ecology, feminist relational approaches to identity, and the intersection of urban planning with environmental justice. Recent projects explore multicultural suburban dynamics around waste management and the role of empathy in urban geography. Teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, including modules on infrastructure development and research methods. Jon supervises students in sustainable development, more-than-human environments, and urban studies.
