Dr. Melissa Hills is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at MacEwan University, where she serves as the Lead for the Research Group for Inclusive Experiential Learning. She holds a PhD from the Australian National University. Her work focuses on creating inclusive learning environments through evidence-based teaching practices and universal design for learning (UDL), particularly in STEM disciplines. She has received a Distinguished Teaching Award (2024) and serves as a Chancellor’s Research Chair (2024–2026).
Her research spans molecular biology, including studies on genetically modified crops and plant development, alongside Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) investigations. Key projects include exploring flexible assessment structures, UDL implementation in labs, and team-based learning strategies. She mentors undergraduate research in molecular biology using Arabidopsis as a model organism.
