Melissa Haviland is Professor of Printmaking and Area Chair within the Department of Art and Design at Ohio University's Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts. She additionally serves as Director of Study for the Honors Tutorial College Studio Art program, providing specialized mentorship for advanced undergraduate students.
Her educational background includes:

Professor Haviland's practice critically investigates the socio-economic dimensions of everyday objects through print installations. Using domestic items as cultural lenses, her work dissects Western colonial legacies and their manifestations in class structures. Her technical approach integrates screen printing, handmade paper craftsmanship, pattern systems, and the conceptual framework of multiples to create layered socio-political commentaries.
As Area Chair of Printmaking, she oversees curriculum development and studio operations while maintaining an active artistic practice. Her studio in Seigfred Hall (Room 206) serves as the production hub for her material-based research. Students engage with her critical methodology through printmaking and papermaking courses that emphasize both technical mastery and conceptual rigor.
