Dr. Melissa Boyde is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong's School of the Arts, English and Media, where she focuses on Animal Studies, modernist literature/art, and cultural analysis. Her extensive affiliations include editorial leadership of the Animal Studies Journal, co-editorship of the Animal Publics book series, and advisory roles at the University of Melbourne and University of Canterbury. She previously served two terms as President of the Australasian Animal Studies Association (2011–2015, 2019–2020).
Her research examines human-animal ethics, Australian women artists (e.g., Margaret Olley, Moya Dyring), and the roman à clef genre in modernist literature. She has curated exhibitions at institutions like Heide Museum of Modern Art and Tweed Regional Gallery, blending scholarly and public engagement.
Dr. Boyde's publications emphasize animal ethics, cultural narratives, and artistic critique, with recurring themes in industrial agriculture, feminist art, and environmental humanities.
