Melissa Alfonsi, RN, MSN, is a Special Lecturer and Simulation Facilitator at Oakland University's School of Nursing, serving as Interim Simulation Coordinator. She concurrently works part-time as a Registered Nurse in the mother/baby unit at Corewell Troy Hospital.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor’s of Art in Integrative Studies from Oakland University (2010)
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Oakland University (2011)
- Master’s of Science in Nursing from The University of Toledo (2016)
Professor Alfonsi specializes in Obstetric Nursing and Maternal-Child Health, with clinical expertise in Labor and Delivery Recovery, Postpartum Care, and Normal Newborn/NICU Care. Her teaching focuses on simulation-based education for the Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family course, leveraging her dual clinical-academic experience to prepare students for real-world obstetric scenarios.
She actively contributes to Oakland University's Simulation Lab in the Human Health Building, developing training protocols that bridge classroom theory and clinical practice in maternal-newborn nursing.
