Melinda Hinkson is an Adjunct Professor in the Sociology department at La Trobe University. Her research focuses on people-place relationships, anthropology, and visual culture with extensive fieldwork among Warlpiri peoples of Central Australia and farming communities in north-western Victoria. She holds a prestigious Australian Research Council Future Fellowship (2014-2020).
Education and Career History: Previously held roles at the Australian National University (2001-15) and Deakin University (2015-22). Directed the Institute of Postcolonial Studies (2019-2023) and currently affiliated with La Trobe's Climate Change Adaptation Lab. Lives on a dryland farm in the Millewa region.
Research Interests: Explores intersection of anthropology with visual culture, digital identity, and postcolonial studies. Specializes in ethnographic methods applied to Indigenous knowledge systems and environmental adaptation.
