Melany C. Fisk is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Miami University. She is affiliated with the Institute for the Environment and Sustainability, Miami Ecological Big Data Initiative, Ecology Research Center, and Center for Aquatic and Watershed Sciences. Her research focuses on soil biota and their roles in terrestrial ecosystem nutrient cycles, including interactions among plants, microbes, and soil fauna. She investigates environmental change impacts, particularly nutrient limitations (N, P, Ca, C) and invasive earthworm effects on forest ecosystems.
Research interests include detrital foodweb dynamics, microbial seed banks, and biogeochemical processes in forest soils. Her work bridges field studies and experimental approaches to understand ecosystem responses to global changes. Courses taught include Fundamentals of Ecology, Soil Ecology, and Ecosystem and Global Ecology.
Publications emphasize nutrient cycling mechanisms, soil microbial ecology, and invasive species impacts. No scientific awards are listed. Her current projects involve exploring nutrient interdependencies in forests and earthworm-driven soil transformations. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams through Miami’s environmental initiatives.
