Melanie Ragge is a distinguished musician and academic affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music, Purcell School of Music, and Cambridge University. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Musicology from King’s College Cambridge and was awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship at the Royal College of Music. Her primary roles include teaching oboe, coaching chamber ensembles, and conducting research on reducing strain injuries in musical training using Electromyography.
As a performer, she is a founding member of the New London Chamber Ensemble, releasing acclaimed recordings such as Nielsen’s Wind & Piano Chamber Music and Martin Butler’s chamber works. Her collaborations span renowned artists like the Dante Quartet and pianist Angela Hewitt. She has performed globally, including at Wigmore Hall and Berlin’s Philharmonie Hall.
In education, she has been Associate Director of the National Youth Chamber Orchestra and guest tutor at institutions like Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Her recent research includes a 2018 film project on side-by-side ensemble training with filmmaker David Lefeber. Awards include the Leverhulme Fellowship, recognizing her contributions to musicology and performance.
Melanie’s work bridges performance, pedagogy, and science, with a focus on innovation in teaching and injury prevention. Her current projects explore the intersection of technology and music education, particularly in post-pandemic contexts.
