Dr. Melanie Handley is an Associate Professor at the University of Hertfordshire's School of Health and Social Work, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Public Health and Community Care (CRIPACC). Her research focuses on improving healthcare services for individuals with multiple long-term conditions, particularly dementia, through co-design and realist methodologies.
She leads projects such as the CONNECT study and co-leads the MEDAL study, which model care navigation for dementia patients. Her expertise includes systems thinking, realist evaluations, and co-production approaches to address healthcare inequalities. She has collaborated on initiatives like the StOP UTI project to prevent urinary tract infections in care homes and the MINDS study to optimize mental health inpatient discharges.
