Melanie Guldi is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in the College of Business. A native Floridian, she received her B.S. in Economics from the University of Florida (1995), M.A. in Economics from Michigan State University (1999), and Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis (2006). Prior to UCF, she served as an Assistant Professor at Mount Holyoke College (2006-2011).
Her research focuses on economic demography and health economics, with emphasis on fertility trends, maternal/infant health, Medicaid policy impacts, and environmental factors affecting birth rates. Her work has been published in prestigious journals like the Journal of Human Resources and Demography, and covered by major media outlets including The Guardian and CNN.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in areas such as climate change effects on fertility (2025), healthcare pricing transparency (2024), and policy impacts on vulnerable populations. She has also contributed to edited volumes on reproductive health policy and demographic transitions.
