Melanie Daily

Melanie Daily is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the Douglas County Legal Aid Clinic at the University of Kansas School of Law. She specializes in representing clients in juvenile defense, criminal record expungement, and family law matters through student-attorney collaboration. Her research focuses on state regulation of family dynamics, particularly regarding poverty, child welfare, and survivors of intimate partner violence.

Education: J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis (2007), A.B. from University of Chicago (1999). Professional experience includes judicial clerkship at Missouri Court of Appeals and attorney roles at Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. She co-edits the Best Practices for Legal Education Blog and serves on the Kansas Judicial Council’s Family Law Advisory Committee, Kansas Legal Services Board, and Douglas County Juvenile Justice Advisory Board.

Teaching responsibilities include Advanced Legal Aid Clinic, Family Law, and Legal Aid Clinic courses. Active memberships include American Bar Association, Clinical Legal Education Association (CLEA), and National Legal Aid and Defender Association.
