Melanie Crean is an Associate Professor of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons School of Design (The New School). Her practice bridges video, performance, and emerging technologies to explore social justice themes through mythological frameworks. She collaborates with communities in post-industrial regions to reimagine civic systems through participatory worldbuilding.

Research Focus: Investigates how history is recorded through contested sites (archives, built environments, bodies). Specializes in experimental narratives that challenge cultural archetypes like the 'unruly woman' and 'American exceptionalism'.
Recent Work: Recent projects include A Machine to Unmake You (2024, FACT Liverpool) and No Such Place as America (2022, MWPA). Her work emphasizes design futuring and storytelling as political acts.
