Dr. Melanie Braith serves as Senior Research Associate for the Six Seasons of the Asiniskaw Īthiniwak Partnership Project and Research Coordinator for the Centre for Research in Young People's Texts and Cultures at the University of Winnipeg. Holding a PhD in English from the University of Manitoba, her research examines Indigenous storytelling practices, immigration narratives, and Indigenous-newcomer relations in Canadian literature.
Her scholarly work centers on decolonizing methodologies through analyses of residential school testimonies, intergenerational knowledge transmission, and cultural reclamation in contemporary Indigenous literature. Recent publications investigate authenticity in collaborative research, temporal frameworks in interdisciplinary work, and narrative strategies in Indigenous audiobooks. Dr. Braith teaches courses on Indigenous literatures, children's literature, and Canadian immigration narratives.
As co-investigator on major partnership grants, she develops ethical frameworks for community-engaged research that prioritize Indigenous sovereignty and knowledge systems. Her analytical approach bridges literary studies with cultural preservation practices and educational applications.
