Melanie Asp Alvarez serves as Executive Director of Academic and Career Success and Assistant Teaching Professor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arizona State University. She also chairs the Cronkite Scholarship Committee and is part of the Cronkite Leadership Team and ASU's Student Success Leadership Council. Previously, she was Assistant Dean (2020–2024) and managed the nationally acclaimed Cronkite News newscast as assistant news director and executive producer.
Expertise: Media History and Theory, Video Production, and Broadcast Journalism. She has led the Cronkite News team to multiple national awards including BEA's Best of Festival (2018), National Student Murrow Award (2017), and SPJ's Best All-Around College Newscast (2017).
