Her work focuses on behavioral interventions and social determinants of health, with current leadership in the PACES project's qualitative workstream and public engagement initiatives.

Her research integrates social-ecological perspectives to examine obesity, mental health, and social connectivity across diverse populations. Specializing in mixed-methods approaches, she investigates how social networks influence health behaviors in older adults, carers, and urban-rural communities. Recent work bridges digital health and peer support systems, analyzing stakeholder perspectives to optimize mental health interventions. Her publications reveal consistent focus on translating behavioral theory into practical health solutions through systematic reviews, qualitative explorations, and stakeholder co-design processes.
Key scientific contributions include leadership in the PACES project, development of Theory of Change frameworks for digital mental health, and analysis of social determinants in obesity management. Her work spans cardiac rehabilitation support systems, stroke recovery interventions, and pandemic-era behavioral adaptations.
Thomson actively supervises MSc students (e.g., Mohammed Ashraf Idris Bux on skin camouflage services) and delivers teaching in qualitative methods for the Human Nutrition program. Her research datasets include stakeholder engagement materials for digital mental health platforms.
