Mei Yu is a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the School of Economics, Finance and Accounting. She holds a PhD in Corporate Governance from the University of East Anglia and an MA from Bradford University. Her career began at Birmingham City University as a Lecturer in Finance in 2010. She currently teaches modules such as Global Finance, Financial Strategy, and International Finance, serving as module leader for International Finance. Her research focuses on corporate governance mechanisms, their impact on firm performance, and corporate social responsibility, particularly exploring board structures, ownership dynamics, and compliance with governance codes.
Dr. Yu has extensive supervisory experience, managing undergraduate projects and postgraduate dissertations while acting as an academic personal tutor. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing ethical business practices and sustainability. She is a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association and actively participates in academic conferences, including the 1st HCCG Conference on Corporate Governance and Corruption. Her research has been widely cited, contributing significantly to debates on CEO duality, gender diversity in leadership, and governance in emerging markets.
Notable collaborations include cross-national studies comparing corporate governance practices between the US and China during financial crises.
