Dr. Yin Yu-Thompson is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Oakland University’s School of Business Administration, Department of Accounting and Finance. She joined Oakland University in 2010 after earning her Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati. Her research focuses on financial accounting, capital markets, executive compensation, family firms, and fundamental valuation.
Education: Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati. She also holds scholarships including the University of Cincinnati Graduate Scholarship (2010), Laurentian University Summer Fellowship (2005), and Laurentian University Graduate Scholarship (2005).
Research interests include audit fee dynamics, proptech financing strategies, REIT audit investments, CEO debt impacts on corporate governance and overinvestment, and liquidity management in family firms. Her work has been published in journals like Journal of Credit Risk, International Journal of Managerial Finance, and Review of Accounting and Finance. In 2016, one of her articles was honored with a Highly Commended Paper award at the Emerald Literati Network Awards.
Teaching focuses on Financial Accounting and Governmental Accounting. Awards include the 2016-17 Department Faculty Award from the Department of Accounting and Finance. Her research often intersects with corporate governance, executive incentives, and financial reporting practices.
