Rajeev Singhal is a Professor of Finance at Oakland University's School of Business Administration (SBA). He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Utah. His research and teaching focus on Corporate Finance and Investments, with particular emphasis on audit practices, bankruptcy costs, and corporate governance. He has been recognized with the Distinguished Service Award from SBA in 2015.
Dr. Singhal's research spans topics such as audit fee determinants, financial distress management, and international accounting standards. His work frequently examines cross-jurisdictional reporting, bankruptcy implications, and corporate restructuring strategies. Over 20 years, he has published extensively in journals like the Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory.
His articles reveal a consistent focus on auditing challenges (e.g., non-audit fees' impacts), bankruptcy's economic consequences, and firm performance metrics like Tobin's q ratio. Recent work (2020–2023) addresses group-affiliated firms in emerging markets, while earlier studies (2003–2011) analyzed Chapter 11 bankruptcy's cost structures and implications for auditor independence.
In addition to his research, Singhal advises students in finance-related programs and contributes to the SBA's academic initiatives. His work bridges theoretical finance frameworks with practical corporate decision-making in complex regulatory environments.
