Dr. Mei Elansary is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a developmental behavioral pediatrician at Boston Medical Center. Her research focuses on maternal mental health, child development, and interventions for trauma-exposed families, with particular emphasis on early life opiate exposures and parenting interventions.
Education: BA in Biological Basis of Behavior and Environmental Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania (2008), MPhil in Medical Anthropology from Oxford University (2012), and MD from Yale School of Medicine (2016).
Research Interests: Dr. Elansary investigates how socioeconomic factors and maternal mental health influence child neurodevelopment. Her work emphasizes preventive strategies for child psychopathology and interventions targeting families affected by substance use. Key areas include neighborhood effects on infant brain activity, maternal stress mitigation, and the role of parental mindset in child outcomes.
Grant Funding: PI of NIH/NIDA grant (1K23DA061933-01) exploring video-coaching interventions for mothers with OUD. Sub-PI on a NIH-funded autism transition intervention study.
