Mehr Latif is an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Boston within the Department of Conflict Resolution, Human Security & Global Governance. Her research explores social transformation across individual, group, and structural levels.
- Education: PhD and MA in Political Science (University of Pittsburgh, 2017 & 2013), MA in International Relations (Johns Hopkins, 2004), BA in Political Science (Grinnell College, 2000)
- Professional Experience: Post-doctoral associate (University of Pittsburgh), 10+ years with international non-profits (The Asia Foundation)
Her work focuses on radicalization in the U.S., cognitive/emotional theories of white supremacy, micro-politics of South Asian state formation, and social accountability frameworks globally. She applies qualitative methods to analyze:
- Emotional dynamics in extremist groups
- State-citizen boundary negotiation
- Gender roles in far-right movements
- Micro public sphere politics in Pakistan
- Citizenship in postcolonial contexts
- Policy interventions for social change
Key publications appear in Emotions and Society, International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society, and Sociological Quarterly. She advises international development agencies on program design.
