Dr. Mehmet Sofuoglu is a Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and Director of the VA New England Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC). He holds appointments in multiple departments and research centers, including the Cancer Prevention and Control Center, the Center for Nicotine and Tobacco Use Research (CENTURY), and the Stress & Addiction Clinical Research Program. His work focuses on developing novel treatments for substance use disorders, with a particular emphasis on nicotine, opioids, and comorbid pain conditions. Dr. Sofuoglu also leads the Yale Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science, which examines the impact of nicotine and flavors on tobacco product appeal and abuse potential.
