Dr. Mehmet Altintas is Associate Professor in Internal Medicine at UTMB, focusing on molecular mechanisms of kidney disease and podocyte biology.
Research Focus: Investigates soluble urokinase receptor (suPAR) in diabetic kidney disease, podocyte injury mechanisms, and genetic/environmental factors in renal pathologies. Current projects examine developmental origins of kidney function.
Publications: Studies in Science Translational Medicine, Kidney International, and Nature Communications explore suPAR's role as an immunotoxin, Rac1 signaling in podocytes, and cytoskeletal stabilization therapies.
