Mehmet Şen is an Assistant Professor at TED University's Faculty of Education, Department of Elementary Education with a specialization in Primary Education. His research focuses on pedagogical content knowledge, science education, and teacher training, often exploring how educators can enhance students' scientific literacy and argumentation skills through innovative methodologies like the Science Writing Heuristic approach.
Key research interests include: science education, pedagogical strategies for elementary teachers, argumentation in classrooms, and sustainability consciousness among students and educators. His work integrates sociocultural perspectives, emphasizing contextual knowledge and teacher development. He has published extensively on topics such as student epistemological beliefs, pre-service teacher orientations, and the impact of content knowledge on teaching practices.
His recent studies highlight the effectiveness of argument-based inquiry methods in improving scientific literacy and the analysis of argumentation schemes in middle school settings. He has also contributed to adapting global educational tools like the Global Scientific Literacy Questionnaire for Turkish contexts. With over 42 publications and involvement in 5 projects, his research bridges theoretical frameworks with practical applications in teacher education and curriculum design.
