Dr Mehfuz Zaman is a Research Fellow at Griffith University's Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics. His research focuses on vaccine development, anti-infectives, immunology, and drug delivery. He leads a team specializing in translational science, including pre-clinical models and collaborations with biotech firms like Olymvax. He was awarded the 2016 IG Early Career Researcher Award and promoted to Associate Research Leader in 2024. His work includes licensed vaccine technologies and patents. Dr Zaman teaches in Griffith's School of Environment and Science, supervising doctoral and master’s students on topics like influenza vaccines and respiratory pathogens. He has secured over $3.5 million in grants, including NHMRC and Heart Foundation funding.
His research outputs span 35+ publications, emphasizing liposomal vaccine delivery systems, streptococcal vaccines, and malaria immunology. Projects include combinatorial vaccines for influenza and bacterial superinfections, and a semi-synthetic malaria vaccine. He collaborates globally, advancing clinical trials for streptococcal vaccines and studying viral-bacterial co-infections.
