Megumu (Meg) Burress is a Teaching Associate Professor of Japanese in the Department of World Languages & Cultures (WLC) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She holds Master’s degrees in Foreign Language Education and Educational Psychology, as well as a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Research. Her career focuses on language acquisition and study abroad, supported by her early experiences learning English in Japan. Since 2013, she has taught Japanese at UT and received the Chancellor’s Extraordinary Graduate Teaching Award. She currently serves as Director of the WLC Taped Language Program (managing Persian/Farsi resources) since 2022.
Her research interests emphasize foreign language pedagogy, cross-cultural educational practices, and the intersection of technology in language learning. She actively engages in fostering student growth and global engagement through academic advising and program development.
