Megs Gendreau is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Environmental Studies at Centre College, serving as Chair of Environmental Studies starting Fall 2024. She holds a B.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences from Hampshire College, an M.A. from UC Santa Cruz, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from UC Riverside. Her research bridges political/social philosophy, climate ethics, and environmental justice, with a focus on Just Transition in Appalachia and fenceline communities. She teaches Ethics, Environmental Philosophy, and post-Kantian German Philosophy.
Her work explores climate justice, moral obligations to future generations, and philosophical frameworks for ecological crises. Publications span journals like Environmental Values and Ecological Justice, addressing topics from climate displacement to sport ethics. She serves as Treasurer of the International Society for Environmental Ethics and co-advises Centre’s Pre-Law Program. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates environmental policy, ethical theory, and community engagement.
Key contributions include critiques of anthropogenic climate change valuation, ecological justice in extinction crises, and moral dimensions of athlete identity. She advocates for Just Transition strategies in Appalachian regions, reflecting her commitment to bridging theory and grassroots action.
