Megan Widman is a Special Instructor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work and Criminal Justice at Oakland University. She holds a BA in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Wayne State University, specializing in Community Practice and Social Action.
Her professional focus includes direct practice with survivors of sexual/domestic violence, systems change advocacy, and policy development. Megan previously served as Social Action Program Director and Prevention Education Director at HAVEN, Co-Chair of the Oakland County Coordinating Council against Domestic Violence, and founder of the Farmington Hills High Risk Response team. She currently advises law enforcement statewide on domestic violence protocols and manages a multi-year research project at the University of Michigan examining campus sexual assault responses.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on social welfare policies, macro practice, and field practicum seminars. Her work bridges academic instruction with community engagement through policy advocacy and prevention education initiatives.
