Megan Wallace is an Associate Professor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Monash University and Monash Health. She serves as Director of Medical Student Research for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and leads the Lung Development research group at The Ritchie Centre, Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Her research focuses on mechanisms of normal lung development, prevention of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and evaluating medical education outcomes. She collaborates internationally on projects involving neonatal physiology, glucocorticoid therapies, and preterm birth complications. Wallace has supervised over 37 students (12 PhD/Masters and 25 Honours) and secured >60 grants. She also oversees undergraduate biomedical science teaching and continuing professional development programs. Major contributions include advancing neonatal ventilation strategies and developing novel selective steroid prodrugs for preterm infants.
Research highlights include studies on lung aeration mechanics in animal models, maternal asthma impacts on fetal lung development, and phase contrast imaging techniques for lung structure analysis. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing health equity and innovation. Current active grants (2023-2026) focus on reducing respiratory distress post-caesarean delivery and improving preterm lung maturation therapies.
