Claudia Nold is an Adjunct Associate Professor (Research) in Paediatrics at Monash Health and affiliated with The Ritchie Centre at Hudson Institute of Medical Research. She has a strong background in cytokine biology, inflammation, and immunology with a focus on neonatal conditions.
Dr. Nold completed her pharmacy education in 2000 and earned her PhD from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Her research career includes a post-doctoral position with Professor Charles A. Dinarello in Denver, Colorado, USA (2006-2009), where she worked on interleukin research, before joining Hudson Institute in Melbourne in 2009.
Her research interests center on cytokine biology, particularly interleukin signaling pathways (IL-32, IL-37, and the IL-1 family), inflammation regulation, and their applications in neonatal diseases. Her laboratory has made significant contributions to understanding how cytokine therapies can prevent conditions like bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants.
Dr. Nold's research has important implications for neonatal intensive care, with her team having demonstrated that interleukin 1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) can prevent BPD in mouse models, paving the way for potential clinical trials in human infants. Her recent publications focus on immune-based interventions for perinatal conditions, cytokine therapies, and vaccine safety in preterm infants.

Her work has resulted in substantial grant funding, multiple patents, and collaborations with pharmaceutical industry partners.
She is a Fellow of several professional organizations including the American Association of Immunologists, International Cytokine and Interferon Society, and Australasian Society of Immunology.
