Dr Turner's research integrates clinical psychology with lifestyle medicine, emphasizing non-pharmacological interventions for mood disorders. She investigates Mediterranean dietary patterns for depression, childhood trauma impacts in bipolar disorder, and digital health solutions including telehealth and outdoor therapies. Her work employs advanced methodologies like network analysis and randomized controlled trials to dissect complex symptom interactions and treatment efficacy.
Analysis of her 2019-2025 publications reveals consistent leadership in the CALM trial series, pioneering comparisons between lifestyle therapy and psychotherapy for depression across pandemic and non-pandemic contexts. Recent work shows escalating focus on environmental co-benefits of dietary interventions and youth-specific outdoor mental health therapies, with significant attention to physical-mental health comorbidity.
Dr Turner actively supervises Masters by Research candidates in Deakin's School of Psychology. Her extensive collaborations—evident in publications with up to 37 co-authors—demonstrate strong national and international research networks spanning clinical trials, epidemiology, and mental health service innovation.
