
Megan Stephan

Megan Stephan is a Continuing Lecturer in UCLA's Department of English and serves as Faculty Coordinator for Writing in the English Majors and Professional Writing Minor. She holds a B.A. from Brown University (1995), MPhil (1998), and DPhil (2003) from the University of Oxford in Nineteenth-Century British Literature. Her teaching focuses on 19th-century literatures, gender studies, and professional/critical writing. She has developed key courses like 'Public Readers, Public Writers' and contributed to the launch of the Professional Writing Minor (2019).
Her research interests include 19th-century British literature, gender studies, and Gothic literature. She has published essays in outlets like the Daily Telegraph and contributed extensively to the Dictionary of National Biography. She received a Mellon/EPIC Fellowship in 2017 for pedagogical excellence.
Stephan oversees UCLA's 110 series writing courses, coordinates undergraduate committees, and volunteers with 826LA to support high school students' college applications. She actively participates in departmental committees, including Alumni Outreach and the Marathon Reading event.
