Megan Rybarczyk, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, where she serves as the Program Director for the Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Her work spans across multiple countries including Pakistan, Botswana, Bangladesh, and several African and Caribbean nations, focusing on emergency care systems development and medical education.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of global health and emergency medicine, with a strong emphasis on building sustainable training programs, improving emergency care delivery in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and advancing equity in global emergency medicine education. She has led and contributed to numerous initiatives aimed at decolonizing global health education and enhancing clinical training through innovative virtual and in-person models.
The recent publications reflect a consistent focus on systematizing knowledge in global emergency medicine, evaluating training outcomes, and addressing critical gaps in emergency care infrastructure. Themes include burn injury epidemiology, virtual education effectiveness, patient confidentiality, and large-scale training program implementation across diverse resource settings.

Dr. Rybarczyk actively mentors trainees and leads international collaborations, particularly through partnerships with the Indus Hospital and Health Network in Pakistan and the University of Botswana. Her work includes grant-funded research on cardiovascular disease presentations in Karachi and the development of emergency care training systems in Botswana. She plays a key role in shaping global emergency medicine policy and education standards.
She leads the Certification Program in Emergency Medicine (CPEM) in Pakistan and is involved in implementing the WHO-ICRC Basic Emergency Care Course and annual Leadership in Emergency Care workshops. Her team-based efforts focus on creating scalable, context-appropriate emergency care systems that empower local healthcare providers.
