Dr. Megan Cox is a Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the University of Sydney, specializing in Emergency Medicine and Global Health. She holds dual clinical and academic roles as a State Retrieval Consultant for NSW Ambulance and an Emergency Medicine Physician for NSW Health. Her academic work focuses on global health challenges, emergency care development in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs), and medical education. She has over 25 years of international experience, including pioneering emergency medicine programs in Botswana, where she established undergraduate and postgraduate training programs.
Dr. Cox’s research explores pandemic response strategies, emergency care resilience in resource-limited settings, and healthcare workforce dynamics. She chairs the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine’s (ACEM) Global Emergency Care Committee and collaborates with Pacific Island nations on health system strengthening. Her work emphasizes sustainable partnerships to enhance emergency care access and quality in LMICs.
Publications highlight her contributions to understanding gendered healthcare experiences during pandemics, emergency care infrastructure gaps in the Pacific, and infection control in Botswana’s intensive care units. She has developed resuscitation training programs and evaluated emergency care capacity across Africa using standardized assessment tools.
