Dr Ziad Nehme is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at Monash University's Department of Paramedicine and Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. He is Director of the Centre for Research and Evaluation at Ambulance Victoria, and holds leadership roles in key organizations such as the Australasian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (Aus-ROC) and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR). With over 200 publications and $20M+ in research funding, his work focuses on prehospital emergency care and resuscitation science, particularly around out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) outcomes and emergency medical service optimization.
Educational background: PhD in Public Health from Monash University (2017), specializing in early OHCA response strategies. Over 17 years' experience as an Advanced Life Support paramedic with Ambulance Victoria.
Research interests include improving resuscitation protocols, leveraging machine learning in EMS, and strengthening emergency care systems. He leads national initiatives like the Aus-ROC Centre of Research Excellence and has pioneered drowning-related OHCA studies in Australia/New Zealand.
Scientific recognition includes Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship and Young Investigator Awards from European Resuscitation Council and American Heart Association.
Grants: Secured multiple NHMRC/Heart Foundation grants. Current projects include optimizing rural chest pain pathways, AI applications in ECG interpretation, and national OHCA strategy development via simulation modeling.
Labs/Teams: Directs Ambulance Victoria's research center, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across Australia and internationally on resuscitation science initiatives.
