Megan Rossman is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Communication Department at Purchase College's School of Humanities. A renowned documentary filmmaker, her work has been showcased globally on PBS and at festivals like Outfest and DOC NYC. She holds a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MFA from Hunter College.
Her research focuses on gender, feminist history, and LGBTQ+ issues through cinematic narratives. Notable works include Their Voice (2023), following a performer’s vocal transition, and The Archivettes (2020), a tribute to second-wave feminism. Her films have earned awards such as the Princess Grace Award and multiple audience/jury accolades.
Rossman’s career spans multimedia journalism at The Washington Post and video direction at Teach For America. She won an Emmy for Unfinished Business: Earth Day, 40 Years Later (2011) and was a Pulitzer finalist for A Mother’s Risk (2009).
Her advising and grants include mentorship at Purchase College and leadership in documentary film initiatives. She currently oversees the Communication Department’s academic and curricular development.
