Megan Marshall is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of Composition in the Department of English at Marshall University.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Literacy Education from the University of Wyoming (2015)
- MFA in Creative Writing (fiction) from the University of Wyoming (2007)
- Degree from University of Southern Maine (1998)
Dr. Marshall's research explores how literacy practices develop across different contexts and how educational approaches can better support student success, particularly in the critical transition to college. Her work spans composition theory & pedagogy, critical theory, adolescent literacy, YA literature, and pop-culture studies, with a special focus on first-year college students' experiences.
Her scholarly contributions include book chapters on YA dystopian literature and critical literacy published by Sense, and Digital Writing Instruction published by IGI Global. She has presented her research at major academic conferences including LRA, NCTE, PCA/ACA, and SWPCA/ACA.
Dr. Marshall has extensive teaching experience across multiple educational levels, having served as an English Language Arts teacher for grades 5-8 in North Carolina, Wyoming, and Maine, as well as teaching composition, technical writing, literature, and research methods at the University of Wyoming and community colleges in Wyoming and Maine.
As Coordinator of Composition, she oversees the composition program curriculum, faculty development for composition instructors, and assessment of student writing across first-year composition courses at Marshall University.
