Megan Harvey is a Researcher at the University of Hamburg, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences and the Department of Biology. Her work focuses on the ecological impacts of climate change, particularly how temperature fluctuations affect metabolic responses in ectothermic fish species and their role in carbon cycling within estuarine ecosystems.
- Education
- M.Sc. in Marine Science, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca (2019–2022)
- B.Sc. in Marine and Freshwater Biology, University of Guelph (2012–2016)
Harvey's research integrates experimental physiology, isotopic analysis, and field studies to explore species-specific metabolic strategies under climate stressors. She is currently part of the Research Training Group 2530 Biota-mediated effects on Carbon cycling in Estuaries, working on a project titled Climate change effects of fish species diversity and metabolism in the Elbe Estuary, supervised by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Flemming Dahlke.
Prior to her Ph.D., Harvey held roles such as a Research Fellow at the University of Palermo, where she analyzed commercial marine species, and a Wildlife Technician at Parks Canada, focusing on wildlife safety and migration patterns. Her work often employs histologic, enzymatic, and otolith ageing methods to study eco-physiological processes in marine and freshwater organisms.
