Megan Cole is an Associate Teaching Professor at Emory University's Department of Biology and Director of Undergraduate Laboratories in Biology. She holds a B.A. from Amherst College (2003) and a Ph.D. from MIT (2008). Her work focuses on enhancing undergraduate biology education through real-world research experiences, bridging interdisciplinary STEM fields, and fostering pedagogical skills in educators. Dr. Cole develops lab modules integrating cutting-edge biology research, collaboration, and communication skills to prepare students for modern scientific and medical practices.
Her research interests include the impact of early research exposure on student attitudes, interdisciplinary curriculum design, and the role of social media (e.g., Facebook) in science engagement. Recent publications explore Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), student self-perception trajectories, and competencies in biology experimentation.
Megan actively mentors Emory graduate students, postdocs, and undergraduates in teaching development. Her lab emphasizes collaborative learning environments and equitable educational practices, particularly for underrepresented minorities in STEM.
